August 29 Word of the Day: Stimming
Iso-mandala No. 206, detail (November 2020)
Tapping fingertips upon the sill. Repeating lines
of a song out loud. Saying something over again until it’s meaning is clear. Doesn’t
everyone engage in at least low level, minor stimming? At a loss for words and
need for words I express syllabic streams someone might call glossolalia; the gloss
fills the loss. Shifting objects into a line, or special order, or equidistant
from one another until it feels right. Could this minor stimming be the fractal
of major stimming we do daily? Walking the same route somewhere familiar, for comforts’
sake. Doing the bins or washing-up. Tapping the barometer.
