‘The
Forgotten World of the Semicolon’ gets release 11 February. Dot meets Curl in a
romcom rerun, but looks deceive. Johansson the hyphen stretches the part for
all it’s worth, while Cumberbatch plays credible, if irritating, full-stops.
Notice how semicolons hang about making half-hearted efforts at Spanish
question-marks? Jacobi and Barlow do their quote-marks shtick, but it persists,
who’s the semicolon? And do we need it? Is life a brutish, short sentence? Or
will a semicolon change everything? Winslet gets around; she leaves her
trademark afterthoughts. Or is it Rush, splitting time between characteristic
straight and characteristic quirk? Four stars.
