U-Turn (May)

Americans do a one-eighty, Australians do a uey. Most Australians are amateur politicians. Nonetheless this May there’s no reversing from a Federal Election. The decision-making processes of their professional politicians include the U-Turn, as though it were a given. Yesterday’s visionary plan may suddenly appear in the rear-vision mirror as they manoeuvre an about-face. This is not hypocrisy but necessity. They turned the wheel without noticing. Given time this uey may itself become visionary. Adherence to road rules is, for PPs, an interesting abstract notion and tomorrow they may call on them again, depending on who else is doing ueys.
