Beige (January)

Unforbidden city, stone garden, installation, democratic chess set. Carisbrook Creek flows over smooth stones through bush pasture, from Carisbrook Falls, under the Great Ocean Road bridge, a week before the fire, into the sea. No one seems to know if it’s local artists, Asian tourists off buses, or balancing tricks of every halting passer-by. Drystone pillars grow overnight. Large flat stones, greenish-grey (verdigris?), brownish-grey (is that beige in particular?) rise one on another where they lay on wave-washed boulder beach. Every weight holds down. At Apollo Bay they fear bogans will uncreate it January, February… but let’s wait and see.
