Unforbidden
city, stone garden, installation, democratic chess set. Carisbrook Creek flows
over smooth stones through bush pasture, from Carisbrook Falls, under the Great
Ocean Road bridge, a week before the fire, into the sea. No one seems to know
if it’s local artists, Asian tourists off buses, or balancing tricks of every
halting passer-by. Drystone pillars grow overnight. Large flat stones,
greenish-grey (verdigris?), brownish-grey (is that beige in particular?) rise
one on another where they lay on wave-washed boulder beach. Every weight holds
down. At Apollo Bay they fear bogans will uncreate it January, February… but
let’s wait and see.
