Car (November)

Jalopies motor through ragtime, horns blasting, engines strumming. Jazz history coincides precisely with that of the automobile. Swing’s one big spin of the wheels to beat Depression highway. Bebop overtakes bulky big bands, tailfins only slowing with cool. Freeform signals to drivers, you can go anywhere. This November Mike Nock and David Friesen remind us of possibilities. We can sit at the seat of the most sophisticated transmission, describing every kind of passing landscape. Or do the same by stripping back a utility to its particulars, fusing opposites, plugging it in and letting it take us through hard-earned, liberating places.
