Pluto overturns expectations. It has ice mountains. This August images are received, improbable but true, one by one from the probe, to transform our thinking. What is Pluto to us? Well, Pluto only exists because of human beings, hence the emotions when it was downgraded to dwarf planet. A planet for little more than threescore and ten, so what were they thinking? Sentimental support for Planet Pluto was widespread and moving – We believe in Pluto! – but science rewrites its dogmas with haste. We like looking at Pluto because it’s a landmark of home.
