The two faces meet in a heart shape, like a
Victorian parlour game, or a surprise fold-in at the back of Mad Magazine. The
faces were separate and now they are one. It is the relationship of the moment,
a kiss, a caress, their lean against the other’s brow. There they stay, in
uneasy proximity, her face at the front, staring with unanswered questions, a
darkness around every edge. And the other half of the heart his, a face with
eyes or featureless or a shadow about to vanish into inky night. [Joy Hester
