Thin

Invisible lines feed cacti and shorn lawn
Thin volumes of poetry train thin rain.
Shop assistants strain new words to explain
Life out on the Bentleigh side of Melbourne.
Thin outlines for carparks sharply drawn
Curb clunky philistine automobiles.
Thin volumes of weed, thin tossed orange peels
Edge up on the Bentleigh side of Melbourne.
Rectangles of poetry stare at side streets,
Private back pages keeping the beat.
Rainbows break rank with uniformity
Storm clouds one almighty enormity
Darkening the Bentleigh side of Melbourne,
All else trim and thin, all doors, walls forlorn.
