Continuing inland drought conditions and decreases in dam levels are making
properties in regional areas much more affordable. Erosion of cliffs and
reclamation of beaches by rising seas, real estate agents say, have caused a dip
in house prices, making a large coastal villa with views both attractive and
affordable. Wildfires have reduced the value and cost of land per hectare,
making it eminently affordable. “Assessments by climate scientists have
suggested cities around the Great Lakes are viable – and, until everyone else
panics, affordable!” (The Guardian Weekly, 17 August 2018, page 20, ‘When the
oceans rise, there’s always Canada’)
