Spring

Broad beans, another good crop this year, swaying with wind and rain. Artichokes, their huge scimitar leaves. Lemon tree, stripped of lemons just as new white flowers blossom all over the branches. Satsumas, green under the leaves, purple by January, ready for jam, bottling, and Japanese salted plums. Rhubarb, prolific. Tomatoes, soaking it up. Strawberries, round or walnut-shaped and soft, starting up in profusion. Zucchinis, their light orange flowers lolling in dirt and sun. Silverbeet, new leaf bunches firing up from last year’s roots, hidden by sprawling daisies. Cherry tree, fruiting through [Spring] but concern about bat visitors at night.
