Childhood

“Salt, vinegar, mustard, pepper/ If I dare I can do better.” The Skipping Girl was newest technology when she started jumping on the spot in 1936. Her model was Irene Barron, but everyone calls her Audrey. Unlike ‘Audrey’, neon technology cannot go faster or slower. Irene died last year at the age of 99. Across the street is a memorial to Ingvar Kamprad’s [childhood]. He lived on a farm named Elmtaryd, outside the Swedish village of Agunnaryd. At 15 he was bicycling to neighbours selling matches, Christmas decorations, ballpoint pens. Ingvar died three years ago at the age of 91.
